Rugby (Men)

The Rugby

The men’s rugby club caters for all skill levels from beginners to experienced players. The season runs from September to late March each academic year with weekly training session on a Monday evening and fixtures every Wednesday afternoon. The training takes place up at the Hawkshead campus sport pitches from 19:00 – 20:45 and is conducted by a highly experienced coach. We are currently take part in the BUCS South Eastern 3B league but are looking for promotion this year. The RVC team has always been highly competitive punching well above it's weight with victories over much larger universities. Also the opportunity to play rugby does not finish with playing for the college, as members who wish to take the rugby to a higher level can also represent the United Hospitals team. The United Hospitals Rugby team is one of the oldest in the world and is formed from the best players from all the London medical schools with past player including J.P.R Williams. Other teams which team members are involved in include Wasp amateurs and Barnet RFC.

The Social

There is no other way to say this; the men’s rugby team provides the best social experience at the RVC. After each Wednesday match the team has an organised social which range from nights out in central London to shared events in the Buttery Bar with a ladies sports team. Notable events include our introductory social, Old Boys rugby match and Camden Vs Hawkshead match. The social event cumulates in our annual Tour where we play a local side and enjoy the culture! Past tour locations include; Zagreb, Krakow, Budapest, and Amsterdam.
